Misfire, EML, and 2 fault codes
« on: 04 October 2008, 18:32:18 »

More trouble  >:(

Here's the deal.

Went out for a run today - car was fine on the way. On the way back, it seemed to lose a bit of power a couple of times but only just enough to be noticable. When waiting at lights, it gave me a very prominant misfire - but it cleared when I drove off.

Got home, checked plug leads  and wells - all dry and OK.

Read codes, I've got codes

73   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
74   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High

When the engine is idling, the EML flickers, but as soon as it revs, the EML goes off - and comes back on when back at idle.

Although it does rev, it misfires randomly and tries to cut out.

Going on past experience it seems very much like fuel starvation, but the tank is full  :-/

Have you had a cam cover failure?

Was there signs of tracking on the plug insulators when removed and checked?

Cam covers / plug wells have always been bone dry. Everything on the HT site looked fine although the boots on the leads are a bit worn ::)

Just goes to show. EML codes tell you about the symptoms as the ECU sees them not the cause!
