if yer motor's a manual...


it might be clutch. could be caused by revving it too high when reversing etc, or, as in my case, oil oozing from cam cover dripping into the clutch and making it slip/shudder.

find out by trying to pulll away up hill with as little revs as possible and it will shudder and shake like crazy if you have an oily clutch.

if you have an autobox, ignore me :p

My vote goes for the aux belt tensioner, had similar (plus the whining noise).

My omega had that smell also, it was the aux belt tensioner. It didnt smell all the time, noticed it when I came out of the car usually. I would change it if I was you, couse it aint a expencive part and easy to change.

I would go with the cam covers as i get the smell and when i looked in the plug holes they are all full of oil Bugger here we go again >:(
