Engine stalls after short acceleration
« on: 10 October 2008, 19:35:11 »

So the weekend doesn't get boring for sure!  :-[

Just happened on my way home two times and I could reproduce it  >:(
On my way to a roundabout, engine just running since half a mile, pressed accelerator once app. half way and then let lose again - engine stalled - (always nice in a roundabout with power steering and automatic transmission).
After app. 1 mile next roundabout, same procedure, same result.  :'(

Then on the street where I live let the Meggy just role, short accelerated, left lose, stalled. Shift in Neutral, restarted engine, shift in D -> running. Waited app. 100 yards, pressed short accelerator, left lose, stalled.  :(

Then on the driveway I relized that the idling went up to 1500 rpm. I switched the engine off, started without pushing the accelerator -> engine short started but than died. Started again with slight pushing the accelerator engine kept running but again at 1500rpm.  :o

I know of one "fault":
- My battery is on the verge to be dead, I will replace that one tomorrow.

There is no warning light on or flashing, nothing.

Before I start searching tomorrow in the middle of nowhere: Any suggestions what I should check first?

Thanks for your replies!

If no codes come up try cleaning your ICV, also when was your breather system last cleaned?

@MutantCav: Ok, I will do that first.

@Pete Elite: Unknown. But in my head I have that already scheduled as I have already read a lot about it here.

@all: Thanks for your advice, will now have a go at my Meggy.

Alright, back from my Meggy with the following results:
- pedal trick didn't come up with any blink (my one is a facelift so I guess that should have worked if there was any fault)
- changed the battery
- cleaned the breathers on top of the intake manifold. One of the smaller pipes was quite blocked. BUT when reassembling I noticed that one of the smaller hoses was ripped at the front. I cut that part off and put everything back in place.
- Engine started, unfortunately still stalls uner the same circumstances.  :(
- Redone the pedal trick, just got announcement for the traffic master, nothing else
- When leaving the engine running I checked all hoses visual (I just run out of cleaner) and I noticed that the seal from the ICV to the intake manifold was quite far out. A more thorough check revealed that I could with almost null effort pull the ICV out of the sealing rubber.

So my next steps will be: Replacing all O-ring seals from the breather system (4 small ones and one bigger one) and I replace the seal from the ICV. On that occasion I also clean the ICV. Than I buy some brake cleaner and check if everything is sealed.

Will take the fun out of the Meggy for a few days as whenever giving full throttle the engine stalls afterwards but I guess I can live with that for a while!  ;)

Anybody with any more ideas please don't hesitate to post.

Before changing anything, see if engine management thinks there is something wrong - paperclip it (pedal trick wont work on yours)
