All the red tape, risk assessments and insurance cover are what cost the money no doubt. Used to be a few nice friendly village bonfires around here but most of them have been legislated out of existence :(

Have fun whatever you do. Have squandered the entire firework budget on a single rocket which I'm going to put a match to tomorrow night at my parents' place.

Kevin

Have fun then Kevin, i might get some fireworks and light in my back garden, that's if they are not all sold out, i got to be careful my dogs don't get scared and I'll have to keep them calm.....

Have'nt you got any of them doggy earplugs ::)

No i haven't ,I did'nt know you could get them ::)

:)You should all consider yourselves lucky you do'nt live in Lewes (E Sx.) I did for 9 years, they shut the whole town to traffic, several different bonfire societies each with thier own display, all dressed up marching through town, people even come from abroard, extra trains laid on plus all the nearby villages have thier own displays/marches, goes on for weeks but they love it.
I think it's something historic as it's a tradition going back 100's of years. If you google Lewes Bonfire you'll find pages of it, TV crews the works.

When i was a kid we too had a great big Bonfire at the local wreck.........

No worries about Insurance in those days, and all the town was there i loved the smell of hot dogs and Fire.
Everything was low key then, and i bet i had more fun than a lot of people today.

Those were the days....................pull up a sand bag, and swing the light ;)

And as for fireworks, if a couple of rockets went up we would be amaised, with all eyes glued to the skys as if a space ship was about to land.

But it comes basically down to the Tradition of Bonfire night and the story of Guy Fawkes, how many kids make a guy these days? "Penny for the Guy mate", i used to love getting 10 or 15p in my pocket extra with my mates.
Where has it all gone?
As Maria has allready stated they want 10 or 15 POUNDS to get in these days it has all turned too comercial.
But look at a lot of the old Traditions,  you are not even allowed to sing bar bar black sheep anymore, as it it racial.
I hope you donŽt take this as Racial, because i am not, far from it, it just annoys me to see all of our old Traditions go down the drain.

ok iŽll get my coat.

I was supposed to be going to the little firework/bbq we have in the close last night, but instead was stuck underneath a bloody Audi playing with suspension until about 8pm in Oxford  >:( - yet another quality design by respected german designers  >:(

Have the same trouble with all, so called "German" appliances, had a rant about this, as the germans are so proud of their work,  >:(

and was told that all equiptment these days have the same inners, probably all comimng from China or Japan.

The same with the cars, they may have come from a german Drawing board, but the production is all in East Europe.
It has all got to be cheap these days, and if the car goes wrong more money in the pocket for the mechanics >:(

Everybody is  in an uproar about this way of thinking here, as more and more of the production leave Germany, or for that matter western Europe, towards the like of Poland and Rumania.
With the aim of saving cost, but at the expense of the work force. :(

Alas, in this case, it was the design that is suspect....   ....much like the BMW tractor engine...
