Mine went through the MOT today on the Eternalcar exhaust, which was £116 delivered and cost £40 to fit at local tyre & exhaust centre. The MOT centre would probably have charged at least £400 for a pattern exhaust and £50-60 for an hour's labour plus odds and sods like clamps etc.

The £40 was £10 more than I had hoped but still good value compared to crawling around under the car for half a day to do it myself - and I didn't need to shell out for clamps, sealer, hangers etc. (Or cart the old bits off to the dump).

So - it can be done on a budget.

Good luck.  :y

Wire brush brake pipes and give a rub with emery cloth. if smooth and shiny after this coat with oil. should be ok. but if pipes show signs of pitting after cleaning the pipes will be corroded through and should be replaced. If replacing, remove pipes. Buy a roll of piping and ends from factors and find a small garage to make them up for you (patterned from  your originals). Be much cheaper that way.Either that or you can buy them ready made. some factors do them or some factors will make them up for you. After fitting the pipes have someone with knowledge to assist in bleeding the brakes. Invest in a Haynes manual and read thoroughly before tackling .
Do the safety items first. The rest can be maintained until you have funds to carry out the reps.
I can understand you feel down just now but think of the satisfaction once youve done it. You never know, it will give you confidence to get more involved in diy and save you even more brass. your mig will last for years if you look after it

That's exactly what i paid for mine to be fitted(eternalcar centre sections and VX rear box)at the garage who did my MOT, they said £30 to £40 depending on the cat section joints which turned out to be problematic so charged £40 which as you say is not a lot for saving me crawling around underneath whilst on stands :-? :).

I do try to do most jobs if i can but there are certain jobs that are best left to someone with the right equipment and this was the first time I'd used this garage and turned out to be very good and only a 10 minute walk away :) :) :).

feeling a bit better now after this weeks nervous breakdown with help from you guys, thanks. Will be ordering eternal exhaust tomorrow and gettin local garage to fit, different one to those who "checked" it out.Brake pipes do not seem too bad like posted earlier there is some salt deposits and shoot but gonna give it the wire brush at the weekend and we'll see.Hopefully it's going down from the near £1000 as garage said to a more reasonable £150ish for now.Do garages have a real negative attitude towards Omegas because i got nothing but bad things said when deciding if I should buy one,but I just love 'em.

It's probably because people have been told that Meegas are a pain to work on that some garages tend to take advantage >:( although from experience they can be a tad awkward ::) but with a little patience anything can be overcome :y
