2.5TD Hot Start Problems
« on: 16 October 2008, 15:40:18 »

I know this has probably been covered many times, I've spent hours reading up on the net with Range Rovers and BMW's etc but does anyone know a definate fix?

I've read people have changed the fuel temp sensor in the pump and even the complete pump itself. I can trick the ECU into thinking its cold but I'd rather fix the fault.

I've also got an occasional problem where the engine will die at low RPM or leting off then comes back into life.

If anyone has any experience it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rob

Worth attempting a paperclip test - about a third of tractors can be paperclipped.

A common problem on tractors ......

Mine is no exception - even with a new injection pump etc. fitted!
I eventually changed the battery, and the vastly increased cranking speed allows pretty good warm starting. I reckon that the problem arises due to BM's shite idea of not allowing the glow-plugs to flash on, other than for a cold-start.

If you check my previous posts, you can read the whole episode.
If you've got any further ideas, many a tractor owner would be pleased to hear from you ...... !

Mine's been chipped, but still doesn't warm-start as positively as I'd like.

Every 'tractor' I've seen is the same!

Same here, chipped and starts first turn cold.
From hot takes a little longer but not concerned about it, yet.
