The heating doesnt work
« on: 29 October 2008, 17:09:33 »

Hello all,

Im in need of your help please.

The heating in the car has stopped working now; i dont know what it is!

CAR: OMEGA MINI FACELIFT 2.5 ELITE, CLIMATE CONTROL w A/C

Ive tried to do some searching and some threads suggest it is the HEATER BYPASS VALVE.

The engine is not overheating, nor is it not heating up, by that i mean it reaches operating temperature like it should, perfectly fine.

Im not loosing any water anywhere, and all the pipes that i could reach are warm; howevver all i get is COLD AIR being blown in!

Do you guys know what it is; or whati  can do to try and eliminate the problem.

Regards

Have you tried resetting the climate control? Its holding down the off and auto buttons together for 5 or 6 seconds.  You should then hear the servo's resetting.

The Heater Bypass Valve could also be the culprit, in as much as its not working.  That could be a valve fault itself, or loss of vacuum to the top.  Have a look at the rear drivers side of the engine for a fist sized lump of plastic shaped like the Starship Enterprise.  There should be a vacuum pipe attached to the top.....

If it's sudden then look for a vacuum hose popped off.  Perhaps on the HBV or going into the rubber grommet that the heater matrix hoses pass through into the cabin.

Sorry to hijack slightly, but out of interest how hot is working heating supposed to be?  All other cars i've been in can blast out some pretty intense heat.  Mine has only ever been luke warm, though the cabin will eventually warm up to a reasonable temperature.

Tried the flaps reset - all the air direction stuff seems to work.  All my vacuum hoses seem to be present, matrix hoses in car get hot, matrix itself flows fine as verified when flushing and reverse flushing, but still not much heat.  Does the HBV ever fail partially open, such that flow through the matrix is very low, or perhaps fail totally closed and the heat i'm getting down the matrix hoses is just conducted - no flow at all?  Any ideas appreciated cos it's bl**dy freezing now, and to make matters worse, my seat is the only one with no heat :(

Liam..my Elite takes an age to warm up inside..all pipes /vacuum etc are connected and working as should be ..think it is just a Omega thing.when they do warm up you get really hot but not intense heat as you say like other cars..so it doesn,t sound like you have a fault if mine is also the norm...just to make you feel better my drivers seat also doesn,t heat up and it is leather(really cold now)

alot of heater posts at the moment. Winter def arrived. Are you using the climate control on auto as is probabley best on average? If so the heat builds, as the engine warns, steadily through the whole cabin. Rather than blasting you with cold then gradually building temp air from the face vents as is usual with an ordinary heater. Try the face vents on start up for more direct heat maybe. Mine takes about 3 mins to give out usable heat.

If your already doing that then sounds like a problem. No experience of this but is it possible the heater matrix is partly blocked? If the oil cooler failed in the cars history there could be a lump of sludge in the matrix, or is there stop leak in the system? More than one bottle of bars might cause agro? I must stress i have no first hand experience of this problem so i am guessing tbh. There is a guide on flushing the matrix in the maintenance section i beleive. Maybe some more experienced members will know...

Correctly functioning climate control will start to give cabin heat after about a mile, you should hear the cabin fan increase it's speed.

It can get very warm inside if you ask it to, but it goes about in a subtle way.

They were intended to cope with German winters.

Try flushing the matrix but don't be misled by apparent easy flow with a garden hose. Attach a pipe to one stub and blow into it, if you feel significant resistance it's probably obstructed.

Having reset as instructed, it seems to be working now! Its not HOT HOT, but its ok with me.  As per some previous threads up top, the omega doesnt seem to blast with hot air, so im not worried there.

I think its operating well now

thanks guys for all your help

Much appreciated

oh and it is worth saying that the HBV only bypasses the matrix with vacuum on: if the pipe comes off then you get cabin heat irrespective of temp settings
