oil leak....
« on: 08 November 2008, 12:10:23 »

Replaced the cam cover gasket on the passenger side of the 2.5 v6 last week (1996) and thuoght i'd resolved the oil leak. However it seems that at the front of the engine (Looking straight down with the bonnet up) the top of the sump (I think that's what it is), is covered in oil.. I have no idea's where it's coming from now.  I've checked the driver's side cam cover and it seems i need to do that as well, but i can't see that much oil leaking from it?

I've cleaned the area up and taken it for a 20 minute drive.. Come back and it's covered in oil again. Checked the oil level and seems ok - so its not loosing much.

A little bit of oil goes a long way. Hope its not the crank seal, where the bottom bulley bolts onto the crank, there is a seal, crank to block. Is there any oil above that point? If so its running down from cam covers usually. Difficult to tell with the cam belt cover in the way.

Have you cleaned/unblocked the crank case breathers?
