Drivers Door Mirror Replacement - HELP!!!!
« on: 18 November 2008, 09:06:22 »

Yesterday eve, a mad driver swerved, hit my mirror at about 40mph and didn't stop!

It has badly broken damaged the whole of the mirror cluster and will need to be totally replaced.

How easy is it to replace the unit and how much should I pay?

Yours hacked off.....

Greg

A quick look on eBay clicky  suggests around £15/£20
Gently prise the tweater speaker from the top of the door and they're held in by three 4mm screws. I can't remember now whether I also removed the top corner of the door trim too when I last removed mine ...  :-/

I had to do the same on mine, on the facelift you can just release the door card on the left and using a right angled screwdriver you can get to the two lower screws without removing the doorcard.

Note, if you have an elite you will need the mirror from an elite as it has a return feed to the seat for the preset positioning function.

On a 99 Omega...remove the tweeter, it prises out towards the rear gently...remove the door handle part of the door card 3 screws (be very careful taking the rubber bit of the door handle off, a small thin screwdriver angled under the top slightly downwards to gently unclip it, the lug inside breaks very easily!!)...then you have access to the 3 screws that hold the mirror in place...

What colour is the car as I assume the wing mirror is colour coded?? Easiest to get a second hand replacement in the same colour :)

Thanks for the info.  Mine is a dark blue metallic one.  Not sure what the correct code is.

Sounds like this is going to be a bit of nightmare.  I'm just wondering whether I can swop any of my Elite bits over with a non-Elite mirror?

The motor still seems to work but there ain't a lot of plastic left!

I can't see any reason why you'd have any problems doing so

Yes you can, you need the motor unit and the loom, to extract the loom you need to remove the pins from the connector block at the motor end to pull the loom through the mirror housing.
I then just cut the loom on the new mirror at the door fixing end and taped the elite loom to it and pulled it through.

The plug is wired:-

Pin 1 - Grey / Green trace
Pin 2 - Black / Red trace
Pin 3 - Red
Pin 4 - Green
Pin 5 - Grey
Pin 6 - Yellow
Pin 7 - Black / Brown Trace
Pin 8 - No connection

NB. The plug has odd no's on one side and even on the other.

Hope that Helps

...what mark said, piece of pi$$
prise the tweeter off which is a piece of pi$$ then undo the three screws and also two 10mm bolts then yank the mirror unitoff and unplug the connector and swap for your new/second hand mirror unit!

then the famous line (refitting is reverse of removal)
