What wheels can I have?
« on: 25 November 2008, 10:49:37 »

Hi,

I've just had the MOT done and they have found my nearside front wheel is damaged. I had a look and I have a nice round wheel, except for one little bit which is now flat!

I understand that the MV6 wheels are quite soft and this happens quite a lot.

What I'm wondering is, can this kind of thing be mended? Or does someone have a spare one of these around they would like to sell me?

Here is pic of the wheel I have (sorry don't have a pic of the damage)

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob,
They are quite hard to find in a good condition these days due to them being soft and the time they have been around.

It is possible to get them repaired but as said, you'll need to look around and choose carefully.

Thanks guys.

I found somewhere which should be able to do it for around £100. As the damage is on the inner rim it shouldn't need refurbishment either. That said I've yet to take it in and get an actual quote.

Does anyone have any experience of a company within the Sheffield area?

Another question if I may.

If I get the distortion in the wheel repaired will it compromise the wheel? The wheel will need to be heated etc. so can alter the properties of the material, is this an issue?

Also, and I guess this is subjective, would I be better of getting some new alloys which aren't made from the soft material of the MV6 wheel? I'm thinking that the roads in Sheffield aren't great and it is likely I will have the same problem again.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

you could ask about refubing at your nearest ap tyres place (in the rotherham one they have a before and after)
looks spot on but i havn't shelled out to have mine done yet

also your other question...
the wheels should be fine aslong as you avoid the bad potholes...
i'v buckled mine on a curb :( which also cut straight through the sidewall lol!

Personally I'd answer that one as a "yes". You wait until TB reads this thread.

The other advantage is that, unless you're precious about the originality of your MV6, then you'll also have realised from the thread thus far that you may well pay for a 2nd hand set by selling off your current wheels.

There are at least 3 people out there in your situation who would love to buy a straight wheel of you.

Economics; and it's your market niche. Use it.

I'm quite happy to sell on my remaining wheels (but not with tyres). Or alternatively if anyone would like to sell me one of theirs.

Cheers mate.
Looks like I may get some new alloys then!

If anyone else is interested then give me a shout with some offers. I haven't done enough posts to put them in the for sale forum, but if you let me know your interest I can send you some pics once I know what I'm going to do.
