I have always understood that providing there are no cracks, holes in the main block casting, and the head is free of warping, let alone holes or cracks, then the engine can be rebuilt. :y :y :y

It is only a question of how much it will cost and if the individual thinks it is worthwhile. ::) ::) ;)

anything CAN be done, question is should you, when you can probably get another motor for less grief/cash. Not worth it imho.

I figured I could replace the pistons rings and the one or two damaged pistons and a few other things and the botom end would be alright . The heads were pulled off and I plan on rebuilding them . I cant find a catera motor near my home in buffalo new york so rebuilding it would be worth it for me . I only work on it in my spare time so its no big deal . I cant wait for spring so I can ride my katana 750  :D 2000 gsxr 1000 is what im gonna buy in the summer when I sell my cadillac deville . What year gsxr do you have chris ?

It should re-build fine.

Clearly a cam belt failure on this one!

As for what to do, the ultimate job would be to take tje pistons out and clean them up, file the high spots off where the valves have impacted and check the rings (they may have been crimped into the slots).

Next is the head, strip it and inspect it. the valves are not as bent as some I have seen but, the guides may be cracked so look carefuly.

As for parts, you will need to use some genuine items such as cam cover gaskets. Re-use the original cam seals, get decent head gaskets (payen or elring) and original exhaust manifold gaskets (metal multilayer and NOT composite), new head bolts and away you go.

I normlay reacon on around 200 quid (350 dollars ish) for such a repair including a cam belt kit.

Due to prices it may be worth buying the parts from UK

Yep, can think of a few suppliers who will ship state side.

I notice also that they dish the piston crowns to lower the compression ratio on the caterra power plant

So it needs a set of pistons too

Perhaps it is worth shipping over a mini facelift X30XE - they are able to be fitted with the DBW kit

what is a x30xe and how much are they ? when I searched for the x30xe i came across a motor called a C30SE . But when I search nothing comes up . Can anybody tell me more about the C30SE or give me a few links to some info on them . This place is the best ! I plan on keeping the catera since the underbody is pretty damn clean almost no rust . Never been in an aciident and the inside is REALLY clean . Thanks alot guys for all the help and info .

The C30se was a straight six (6 Cylinders in line) engine fitted to most of the big engined rear wheel drive Opel (Russelheim factory) produced cars pre 1994.

The models included Monza, Senator and Carlton (Omega A under the Opel badge).

X30XE is the standard 3.0 V6 fitted to MV6 and Elite models of our Omegas (Omega B), very simillar to your 3.0 V6 but with a rear mounted dispack and plug leads etc, your V6 is a model somewhere between our X30XE and Y32SE, the Y32SE being a 3.2 and having various tweaks including dispacks over each bank.
