Major Service
« on: 13 December 2008, 23:53:01 »

Got MOT early January and if (when) it passes i'm going to have to splash out on a much overdue service.
I've seen Mr MDTM posted recently about wishbones from Autovaux so have priced up a load of bits i need:

AS90509739 SPARK PLUG £2.99  £17.94
AS91149684 AIR FILTER £6.50  £6.50
AS9201887 TIMING BELT KIT £72.33  £72.33
AS93156954 OIL FILTER - X93 £2.20  £2.20
AS93165162 GM ANTI FREEZE  £13.10  £13.10
AS93165213 10W40 SEMI SYNTHETIC OIL 1 LITRE £3.28  £3.28
AS93165216 10W40 SEMI SYNTHETIC OIL 5 LITRES £12.06  £12.06
AS93170697 WATER PUMP £26.95  £26.95
AS93181720 DRIVE BELT - MULTI RIBBED £14.95  £14.95

total inc Vodka & Tonic = £194.71  :o :o :o
I'm assuming these are decent prices? or are any bits available on Trade Card?

Also got to do the breathers and cam gaskets so thats:

Rocker gaskets 2 sets: 90511451.
O-rings 16 off: 90411826.
Sealent, Black (not the Green stuff!) 1 off: 90485251.
Breather bridge to plenum seal 1 off: 90467543.
Breather bridge to throttle O ring 4 off 90500983.

at £64 in the OOF shop on top (assume this is a TC price???)

GRAND TOTAL £258.71 (+ lots of carb cleaner)  :o :o :o :o

Sh1t better tell the missus christmas is cancelled  :'( :-/ :-X

it probably is a fair price but it's a hell of a lot to spend on a 12 year old car that ain't worth nothing, but i can't afford a new one so better make sure this one lasts a bit longer.

ps need to borrow a cam locking kit in the new year ;)

Put £20 a month away starting Jan so that this time next year you are covered. Much cheaper in long run - car is saving you capital cost of new one on which you could still have bills.

Most service bits are on Tradeclub.  Should make it cheaper, and generally genuine parts are better quality.  Seem to recall an extra 10% off brake pads and fuel filters this month if you have the vouchers...

You could spend half that on just a dealer service anyway, well worth the money if you can do it yourself.
Good luck with the MOT.

I think for £300 you will have done virtually everything you need to do, you should try giving Vauxhall a ring see how much that would cost you.... you may feel alot happier then.

Like said if you got a TC you would save more than it cost you on your first purchase. :)
