There is a three quarter inch metal frame (bonded ? attached to glass ) around sunroof glass and it has bubbles under paint, metal frame can't be bought separately and body shops don't want to know. Any ideas how I can clean it up. Bought vehicle 3 weeks ago so don't know great deal about Omega -- HELP.

It is worth a try this
go to your local dealer and ask if they wil cover it on the 6 year anti corrosion warrenty that vx offered when new, i have heard some have been lucky and had it replaced but also they have been told by vx to go take a long jump of a short cliff. try it mate worth a go.

I had exactly the same problem with the sunroof on my 2004 estate earlier this year.  

I took it to the local Vauxhall bodyshop and they repaired several rust bubbles on the doors and tailgate under warranty but refused to replace the sunroof panel.

In the end I bought one from ebay and temporarily fitted it then repaired the original by removing all the old black paint, rubbing down all of the corrosion and then etch priming and finishing with satin black paint.

The sunroof now looks as good as new and will hopefully stay that way.

I must say that removing and fitting the panel was much easier than I feared, just take care when finally tightening bolts, the Haynes manual was very helpful.

Mine is pretty bad too - but no corrosion as such - its aluminium isn't it?   What does etc priming involve, and what sort of paint did you use?

It is aluminium, the etch primer I used was Self-Etch Primer from a Company called Frost who supply a superb range of products for car restoration, they usually advertise in the classic car magazines.

You just spray or brush it on to clean bare metal as you would using a normal primer (I personally prefer the spray version as it gives a better finish straight from the can).  You can then apply the topcoats as soon as it is dry and rubbed down.

If you still have the eBay roof, please spray that one up for me & we can fit it to mine next time I'm passing your way!!      
I'll even bring a replacement tin of primer from Frost - they're only up the road from me!

I do still have the ebay sunroof Andy and I painted it before fitting but unfortunately I scratched the glass when rubbing it down as I did not mask it properly (I was much more careful on the original).

It's yours for a nominal price for a tempoary spare fitting if you are interested.

The satin black paint I used was the standard Halfords stuff and even though I say it myself I think it looks as good as the original finish.

Thanks for the offer ... . Mine does need painting, like many others do, I was trying to be toongue in cheek. It would have save ME the effort of painting though.
