Help Please
« on: 29 December 2008, 11:29:54 »

Was on the way to taking the mig (2.5 V6) to it's MOT and bugger me pulled up and got fast idle  >:( nothing I could do would stop it, accept turning it off.

Have just done a clip test  got code 21 think this is "Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Voltage High" I'm I right?

If so is there any fix or just replacement and I'm assuming it's located on righthand side of the throttle body housing?

It is indeed on the right side of the throttle housing.

Check the connector to it and the wiring as a first port of call

Yes done that and given the connector a little squirt with WD 40 the throttle bodies are also clean. Since doing the above it's been idling ok but it has done this before some weeks ago but I wrongly thought it was the idle valve having just cleaned that.

What had occured to me is that parhaps a little WD40 on the plastic thing inside/back of the TPS that locates on the butterfly valve shaft may help things?

Just dont want to take it again tomorrow only for the the problem to return while it's being tested and waste £45 :'(

Best sourcing a second hand part I would say.

If the internal track is worn then water dispersant will do nothing

Try Elite Pete or Markey Mark......very rare item to fail so should be easy to get at small cost.

Do check the wiring carefuly though for damage and breaks and check the main ECU connector to incase water has got into it

Ok matey cheers.

As you say it's rare they fail cerrtainly is with bikes I've checked all the wire and couldn't see anything.  I have now given the plug a WDing I might try a little light oil on the track in the mean time I'll contact Pete.
