Exhaust
« on: 29 December 2008, 10:14:43 »

Hi,

I need to replace my exhaust on my 3.2 V6. It has rusted through on the joint between the middle section and back box, on both pipes (normal I think?)

Should I go for a OE Vauxhall replacement or an aftermarket one?

Any idea what I should be paying for either?? Happy to fit myself as I have access to a 2-poster ramp, etc.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hi,

Well i'm just off to pick up the pair of middle boxes and rear for my 2.6 but i do belive that 2.6 and 3.2 complete exhaust are the same all through apart from your Rear box having two outlet rather then one :)
Ok price wise gen vauxhall wanted £115 each for middle boxes and around £200 for the rear box now i'm picking up patten parts for less then £50 each box and £65 for the rear one but my rear box only has the one outlet pipe but i did ask the cost on a twin pipe and was just over £100.
Hope this helps but patten part is ok with me :y

Thanks Rob, I thought that might be the case regarding difference in cost between pattern and Vaux parts....

Anybody else have a view on quality difference between Vaux/OE and aftermarket - or are they all made by the same people?

Cheers,

Martin.

i used to work opposite viking direct and often seen vans from vauxhall and ford esecially picking up systems, i went in and got a new system for my transit and it came in at 145 cheaper than the dealer.as chatting to the guy in viking and was told that had i ordered it from ford it would have came from them anyway.. :-? :-?

Rob

Find someone with a trace club card or get one yourself. Will bring price down to 311, which i paid for mine with double pipe rear box, with new bolts for the cat section. Hope its not too late...
Dont bother with bosal, the packing falls out of the silencer.

Right, I had a ring around and have been quoted the following;

OE Vauxhall on tradeclub = £289 incl VAT

Non-OE through Motorfactor = £126 incl VAT

I can't have the Vauxhall one until 7th Jan as they only have the centre boxes and if I want the discount I have to wait for the back box...

The Motorfactor can get it in today.....

So, based on the huge difference in price and the availability, think I'll go for the non-OE exhaust....  Even if it only lasts half as long as the OE jobby then I'm quids in (assuming I keep the car that long!

Cheers,

Martin.

I reckon you're gonna be disappointed with the pattern part. I ended up taking my pattern exhaust off when I found a used OE system at a scrappy. The pattern part was too noisy for me.  The OE exhaust made a huge difference. Chalk and cheese.

I put a non original system on my MV6 last year .3 months later I took it off and replaced it with a genuine one.It really was false economy . Ok it stopped it blowing but it sounded awful. I kept telling myself it'll get quieter when it gets a bit of soot in it but it never did.Learn by my mistake . BUY AN GENUINE ONE!

I've just put an EternalCar system on mine. 120 quid delivered for the two centre sections and back box.

It looks to be the same quality as the GM systems currently being supplied, going on the pictures from Chrisgixxer.

Eternal don't list an exhaust for the 2.6 / 3.2 facelift but I can confirm that the 3.0 system fits except that the tail pipes on the back box don't extend quite as far as the original. They also don't have the chromed trims on the end, so I will probably weld the chrome trims from my old exhaust onto the new back box, if they clean up OK, or go heavily disguised to the chavtastic section of my local Halfords and buy some new chrome trims. ;)

Sound wise, it's difficult to tell after driving around with no back box for a couple of weels. It's probably a little louder than the OEM system but not in an unpleasant way. There's a very deep burble that probably wasn't there before but there's none of the irritating rasp that normally issues from a cheap exhaust. For the money I'm very happy with it indeed.

An Eternal system or a Stainless system are the only two options worthy of consideration, I'd say.
