ambient lights
« on: 09 January 2009, 09:23:48 »

Does any Omega have ambient lights in them, seen a Bora with them. I think I read the very last ones made had a yellow light that came from the front interior light, is that true?

I believe so, there is a dim light in the rear view mirror which illuminates the centre console.

Ok so what does one do if I want this feature..... My car is an Elite spec anyway and I have the electric self dimming mirror, I guess I need one with the light fitted to it? I thought the light came from the center navigation lights on the roof next to the sunroof control?

Yes they do, mine does, from the link, only in Elites from 02 onwards, mine is a 52 plate 03 car.
In all honesty i really would not bother with the time and money to fit it. Ive had the car 8 months now and only noticed it was there when i put my hand close the mirror base. In pitch black back roads with no street lighting, there is no evidence of it on the centre consol. I suppose i should check its clean/obscured, see the pic.

Previously fitted a BMW dimming mirror with the alarm led to a Mondeo which had a manual mirror previously. Was incredibly easy to do if you can rewire a plug, hardest part of all was ensuring the mirror stuck to the bloody screen! Think the newer mirrors have ambient lights in them and will probably be more plentiful than Omega ones

I have a rear-view mirror WITH the ambient light feature and I think it's really good, but I do have a cream leather interior (very light refelctive) and I would hazard a guess and say if the interior was black then this feature would not be as noticable - just my opinion :)

Good luck finding a rear view mirror from a later mig as i would think they are very few and far between, oh and something else to consider mine has the rain sensative wipers that has the sensor incorporated into the rear view mirror base (where it meets the windscreen) so the unit is bigger than ones without this feature.
