2.0 Smokin!
« on: 08 January 2009, 19:45:46 »

Just wondering, got a 2.0 manual and theres a little hole on the passanger side of the engine about half way along. Seems to be smoking a little through this hole. Is something meant to go in there or is it just meant to be like that? Or is the engine burning oil or is it normal..

or what is it?

Cheers steve

Can you post a picture of it Steve please? :-? ;)

Holes in the sides of  engines are worrying if not designed to be there!! :o :o ::) ;)   Just hope you haven't blown a hole in the block.

Is there any lose of performance? :-? :-?

Have to do it in the morning flash sucks :(

however its half way along the block between the 2nd and 3rd spark plug. On the right side of the block about an inch down. It sticks out from the block a little and is about the size of a little finger with the hole being smaller (if that lot makes any sense!)

no performance lost and it is meant to be there (can tell its part of block or head?)

Sounds like a stud for the exhaust manifold is missing. Is it making any noises?

That appears to be just part of the head's moulding, but as I have a V6 without that I cannot say what is wrong. :-?  Sorry.

I am sure someone else will be able to tell you now there are pictures. :D ;)

EDIT:  Just thought; is the smoke coming out above that moulding? In which case that would make it in the area of the cam cover gasket. ;)

That doesn't sound too good. I just had a look at my 2.0 and that hole is just a dead end going into the cam cover :o

Which suggests then that the alloy has corroded and a hole has appeared!! :o :o

Get the plastic metal mix ready I suggest. ;)

Hmm will have to look again tomorrow. The broken one here has a dead end prehaps I was mistaken about the other (smoking) one.

Confusing!

i have a 2ltr and no holes there. looks like it has been corroded. you could clean it up and put some black sealent on it to block the hole. the black sealent is the stuff for the cam cover gasket, so its used in that area already.

other wise i would look at replacing the cam cover.

i have a spare 2.0 cam cover if its actually part of the cam cover thats corroded? (think they're aluminium from memory on the 2.0)
it's in the exhaust manifold stud hole/egr pipe region tbh from the sounds of it but have another look and if its the cam cover i have a good one
