Misfiring and lack of performance
« on: 05 February 2009, 18:13:13 »

Thought this problem had gone away but it is back. Did the pedal test when i got home after noticing the car was down on power and misfiring.
The following codes came up

0650 MI control circut high instrument :-?
0100 Mass or volume circut High or low. Just recentley fitted a new MAF sensor :-/
0170- 0173 Fuel trim malfunction banks 1 and 2
0300 Multiple cylinder misfire
0305 Cylinder 5 misfire

What is wrong with my car in layman terms please as still learning :y

Many Thanks

Have you done any work involving removal of the plenum??

Air leaks can throw up all sorts of fault codes and give similar symptoms to those you've described :y :y

Funny you should ask as i was planning on removing the Plenum this weekend to clean out the oil breathers but it hasn't been touched recently so really don't think this is the problem. It could be i suppose the coil pack for no 5 spark but need advice  :y

I'm guessing the MAF and fuel trim codes were from before the MAF change.

Looks like something is up with cylinder 5. I would pull the spark plug out and see what it looks like. Make sure it hasn't worked loose, that the insulator is clean with no signs of tracking and there's no sign of the cement seal between the insulator and metal surround failing.

Also check the rubber boot on the coil pack and clean it up.

Cam cover gasket failure and a plug well full of oil is a possibility I guess.

that 0650 code description seems odd. Have a look here.
