« on: 10 February 2009, 06:18:37 »

After deciding to keep my mig i would love to get it fixed and due to me being absolutely crap with cars/tools and knowledge could anyone help me please  :'( :'( :-[ :-[

my front brake discs are warped and judder when stopping so i have got a set of mintex pad/discs to replace them

the car has a water leak from the rear passenger side of the engine i think as when i pull up at lights now and again smoke comes from the left side and when i pull up on the drive you can here it dripping and when i move the car its dripped on the left side although it never leaks empty ::)only seems to go down to the check level sensor :-/

And it has now developed thick mayo on the oil cap and on the oil filler neck, none on the dipstick at all or in the water and since this problem started, when the car reaches temperature inside the car stinks of burnt oil :'(the car never overheats though :y

And finally what can i do about the drivers door as it has snapped :'(
(pics to follow of the door)

could someone help me please as i love my mig,and just want to get it sorted :'( :'(

i will travel ;) and sort someone out££ :-[

i have just bought some nice alloys for the car and i am picking them up sometime this week/weekend from Nottingham so i don't suppose there is anyone around that area that will help me ::) ::) ::) :-[ :-[

brake discs/pads - dead easy to do yourself.  look at the how to on here

water leak is probably the heater bypass valve - a bit fiddly but do able

mayo in filler cap: short journeys - it will clear on the nottingham trip

door check strap - there is a kit from VX to fix this - don't ask me as I've never done it

Best best is to have a go yourself if you can - satisfaction in doing it is immense

I might have an hour spare to weld that check strap back and check your water leak out.

The kit to fix the check strap fixes the door end, as your check strap has ripped out of the body it will definately need welding! I'd take Mark up on his offer!!!!  :y

I would drill out the torn spotwelds and use your nutserts, this will pull the inner reinforcing piece into contact with the top skin and the check strap bracket.
If you do try to weld, open-out the holes in the top skin to 10mm and try to weld the bracket to the internal reinforcement. If you only weld to the top skin it will tear again in no time.
The replacement (repair) brackets are slightly larger so give you more chance to find good metal.
