Hello all,

I'm thinking of getting rid of the wifes 2.5 auto estate. I've had if for 8 years but cannot stop it losing water.
I'm considering a 3.0litre estate next if I can find a decent one. Is there much difference in consumption?
I'll also be using it to tow a caravan.

I cannot think of a better estate than the Omega and wish Vauxhall still made them.

3.0 is a fraction worse on fuel but if your already used to 2.5 fuel economy then you probably wont notice a great deal of difference.

Not sure i would sell a car just because of a water leak. Nothing to say the next one wont leak as well.
What have you tried to stop it leaking?

On the other hand a nice 3.2 elite will put a smile on your face. Certainly did for me. And yes my previous omega had a persistent leak for a while.

It,s now leaking a couple of pints a day. There are no apparent leaks, the HBV is not leaking-Idon't know where its going.

Steve - update your profile to tell us where you are.  maybe there is someone close who can take a look.

TBH- losing that amount should be easier to spot than a slow leak.  On the ground that the Hg is ok, it is probably a cheap fix as well. cheaper than a relacement car!

if you can get under the car have a look around the bell housing, gear box area, any leaks from the v of the engine where oil cooler cover plate and stuff live tend to fall down there. You should see 2 bolts at the lowest point about 3 or 4 inches apart. Usually drips off there, or there are signs of it evaporated off leaving traces of what ever colour coolent you have in the bottle. But 2 pints a day is alot. Would expect to see evidence of the leak on the floor at that rate. Whats the oil look like on the dip stick?

I agree.

I've had it running for an hour this morning I've looked underneath and there is a very slight drip on the drivers side. Ive looked at everything on this side and can still find no leak.

I've had my hand under the HBV and it is bone dry even with the engine running.

Sorry oil is fine on dipstick-there is alittle mayonnaise around the filler cap-but it has always been like this. Emissions were spot on in Jan and had oil changed in jan . This problem has been ongoing but getting worse for a couple of years.
