first drive out and a few worries
« on: 14 March 2009, 20:49:16 »

Half the trouble with a new car is you don't know how it should feel and sound so i drove her round the m60 today to give her a good run. it's Still got a tapping coming from under the bonnet :(  it never goes away and get a bit louder the faster i go! but I'm going to change the oil tomorrow so fingers crossed it gets better! there's a slight wobble to the idle just moving around the white line? i think i saw the display dim with it but i will double check that! The exhaust must have a hole somewhere the note is very deep, i almost don't want to put my foot down! will check that 2mora too! after i parked up i had a look under the bonnet (head failure paranoia) there was a lot of pressure in the water system!(is this normal?)  i let some of the pressure out and had a sniff there was just a sweet smell no exhaust gasses! she cruised reasonably well, never over heating and all the gadgets work except my heated seat!, there's a slight pull to the left but nothing terrible! dose anything sound out of place?? i could do with meeting up with another 3l elite owner to compare!?

A few  oil changes may stop the tapping, check the ICV to make sure it is seated properly and that there are no air leaks. The V6 does have a deep throaty exhaust note and the cooling system is pressurised so i wouldnt worry about that too much. HTH

check around the EGR valve :y it lives opposite the expansion tank there may be an exhaust leak there

The 3.0 does have a throaty exhasut note

Some quick oil changes like every 1k may solve the tapping try some GM 10w40 & then some 5W30 and back to 10W40 i done that to my v6 and it sounds sweet as a nut just purs no nocking or ticking mind you it didnt before :y

The omega Doesnt have a seatbelt light! do you mean the pretensioners light is on?????? if so your car needs a chat with a Tech 2

The seatbelt light thing is something to do with the seat belt pretensioner an accident safety device so i would get that sorted pdq

imho its always worth a session with tech 2 owning member on here esp with a new car. Find out whats wrong with it before it gets expensive and the guys on here that have them know their stuff. See The Boy no here for details. But trouble is your in Manchester, so may be worth a look in the meeting section to see if there is a meet nearer you that will have a tech2 present.

Mean time, check your exhaust behind the rear box where it joins the mid section. They usually rust through at that point first.

Egr is worth a look, you can blank it off apparently.

Tick over could be a few things. But if the dash/display light went dim then maybe worth checking the battery voltage first. But usually its a case of cleaning the icv and making sure its air tight when re fitted.
