Whats the difference please between the two ? And which would I likely have in a 98 2.5 please.

The AR35 has more beefy internals(not sure which bits exactly)so is a stronger and more durable box.
My 2.5 has the AR25,afaik all 2.5,s had the AR25,I could be wrong though. :y

I agree with you, but I am sure an expert will be along soon.

I know someone that may have an AR25 for sale, if you're interested? Are you selling it Rob?

Maybe kept for others in family Mike but 2.5's are fitted with AR25, 3.0 and 3.2's AR35 to take the greater power given by engine...

AR25 will take 250Nm of torque
AR35 will take 350Nm of torque

Hence AR25 in 2.5V6 (and 2.0's)  and AR35 in 3.0V6 ;)

and you only really need to upgrade the box to an AR35 if you upgrade the engine or if you had a TD and wanted to chip it...

As stated, AR35 is stronger, having more clutch plates. Only fitted to 3.0/3.2 petrols.  All other models use AR25, including ALL Vauxhall 2.5TD, despite the rumours. Opel 2.5 TDs also use AR25 up until around 2001, when they started to use a new 5 speed varient.
