I seem to be losing water quite rapidly only when the engine is running. I think i have found roughly where the leak is coming from but i'm hoping someone here can pinpoint the exact part which may be leaking.

When the engine is running and has got warm there is steam coming up the side of the engine on the passenger side from quite low down. Is it possible some rubber could have split down there? My first guess is something is leaking down there and then the engine is evaporating it.

When you say passenger side do you mean passenger rear??

This is the most common place for leaks.

The steam seams to be coming up quite centrally on passenger side actually. Replaced the hbv with genuine in jan.

If the leak is in the V of the engine the general route is to run down the passenger side and as soon as it hits the manifold or downpipe it turns to steam.

Best way to find it would be to make a pressure cap as per the how 2 section and pressurise your system with the plenum and injectors removed. It will save hours of work. In all takes a couple of hours to strip test and rebuild and is quite easy  

It could be a number of things such as  oil cooler plate, coolant brige, thermostat housing, hbv or any of the hoses to any of the above.

Oil cooler and thermostat were done at the same time mate. Is it really that easy to do the pressure test?

Did you replace the Thermostat to Transfer Pipe O rings?

I didn't do it pal had it done at a garage so i'm unsure of that, i'm basically having to top my header tank up every 30 mins of running its going that fast. I could see any evidence of water where it is parked (been a dry few days) but i left it running this evening and it leaves a puddle when its running. It has only been happening sinve friday evening, been fine for a while apart from cam cover on passenger side weeping a bit. I changed the spark plugs last weekend and wondered if i could have "knocked" anything whilst i was there?

I assume it leaks when running as the pressure has built up within the system.

Ive had a simular problem with my 3.0. I could do around 12 miles on a tank of water. On inspection and stripdown it turned out to be an external head gasket waterleak but headgaskets are rare to go on the 3.0.

The ususal suspects are the HBV the coolant bridge, oil cooler or pipe work. Just because a garage did them for you does not automatically mean you can rule them out. Everyone makes mistakes including garage mechanics.

Try removing the plenum and injector manifold and see if you can see where the leak is from. If they have used goog coolant their should be a trace of it left in the area of the leak as it crystallises and generally leaves a whitish residue.

Ok i think lo--knee is going to kindly fix it for me. Should i put some radweld or somethinkg in until it is fixed?
