engine to transmission - another leak?
« on: 20 April 2009, 16:37:52 »

Cam cover, crankcase breather pipe - still dry as a bone.
I also had cleaned the underside thoroughly to check for further leaks, and after 60 miles it was ok.
Today I treated the beast to an oil change, and while checking sump plug was ok, noticed a droplet of oil on torx bolt at bottom of transmission, and some oiliness at join to engine.
I thought I might try tightening up the joining bolts there - good idea or not? Where do I find the torque setting?

I have drips in the same place, though not all the time. I read somewhere, probably on this forum, that it is most likely the seal on the gearbox input shaft.

That being the case I've taken to parking over a tray when at home and definitely not parking on my sister in laws new block drive.

Basically, anything running down the back of the engine, will run down the sides of the gearbox bellhousing and by very nature, drip off the bottom bolts.

Don't be too quick to condemn the gearbox seals - it could be something as simple as the rear oil cooler union!  :y

Bad seal on gearbox input shaft sounds reasonable, but obviously I would prefer it to be something else.

Where is the oil cooler on a 2.0litre? Can't find any pictures or even references to it in Haynes or this forum.
