Hi all,

Got a major fuel leak on my estate. When I first bought it there was a fuel leak and it turned out to be the end of one of the pipes on the fuel pump which you can access through the little hatch in the floor, so I just remade the end and bobs your uncle.

This time it's peeing out from on top of the tank where you can't see it! What I planned to do is remove the pipes (one at a time of course) from the fuel pump, pull them back from underneath the car, check and if neccesary replace.

Now my question is this, I know from previously looking at these pipes that they have a kind of made off end with a plastic arrangement on the end. Can this be removed in its entirety from the fuel filter and the return line and then just replace with plain old fuel hose and clips? When you remove this arrengement is there just a plain old metal tube sticking out of the filter and a plain piece of pipe on the return pipe? Any help would be much appreciated!

Take the inspection cover off in the boot and look at the moetal plate above the fuel pump.

I have seen some that are a bit rotten (And others that are perfact, two different suppliers?) and can cause a leak.

Already looked at that area as I thought it might have been my previous repair that may have given way! It's fairly dry, a bit of petrol but not half as much as is pouring off the top of the tank

Probably easiest to drop the tank (easy when empty, bloody heavy when full!) and inspect it all.

I thought that! Is it just the two big straps plus a bit of wiring and plumbing? It hasn't got much fuel left in it and the rate I'm going it'll be pretty much empty so it won't be very heavy!!!

But what about these plastic ends then? Anybody had any experience with these?

Pretty much - need to remove the rubber surround the actual filler pipe in the filler flap (just pulls off).  may need to undo the fuel pipes (fuel filter a good place to do this).

Tank just then drops down, with a bit of jiggling.

On looking today, I looked at an angle down the hole in the floor where the removable access plate is for the fuel pump in the tank with a torch, and the supply pipe from the pump to the fuel filter had a small hole in it which was spraying fuel everywhere!

Undid this at the pump end, pulled it back from underneath, chopped it back towards the filter end and replaced. Sorted. Car goes, petrol doesn't leak, job done
