help!!! Mv6 electrical problem?? new to omegas
« on: 05 May 2009, 16:13:09 »

hi im new to the site and ive just bought a 1997 3.0 Mv6 omega, having some problems,  big problems  :( :-[,

fitted a new battery as old one was completely dead

the car started ok and seemed to be driving fine until power steering failed, alot of warning lights came on, lights got dimmer and the car had barely enough power to keep running.
i turned the ignition off and waited for a few minutes, then started the car and everything went fine until the next time i got into the car and the same thing happend.

could this be an alternator problem or somthing more serious?? battery light is not coming on

Cheers

hi , you need to check the altenator drive belt , if thats ok you need to check the altenator output at the battery while the engine is running should be around 13.5 14.00 v

I had almost exactly the same problem. Turns out that the battery I replaced the original with couldn't handle my subwoofer's power drain and died within a week of fitting. A trip to halfrauds and £75 later a second new battery did the trick. Ask the RAC man to check your battery for a cell short - always worth checking something nice and easy like that before faffing about with alternators etc.

is the Auxbelt entact? you can see it ehen you open the bonnet its rite at the front behind the inlet pipes

Alternator for a 3.0 off tradeclub is theres 2 ones 100amp the others 120

the 100 amp is PN: R1530041 RETAIL: £193.00 TRADECLUB:£147.81

120 AMP PN :R1530056 RETAIL £133.00 TRADE CLUB: £101.75

I would fit the £120 as its cheaper! as its an R part your stealer will want your original alternator first and will then swap you with a refubished one

or you pay a fee/deposit and then return your original alternator or loose your deposit

3.0 v6 will be the 120 amp one...

You can replace the bushes etc in the alternator for very little money and ery easy to do...new parts should only be £20 or so :y
