Still pulling to the left
« on: 06 May 2009, 23:48:25 »

Changed the Centre Tie Rod arm and that has tightened the steering up nicely, but I still had this pulling to the left issue.
Checked all the linkages etc underneath and still nothing. Swapped the tyres front to back and took it for a test drive.
Even worse...and now the steering wheel is very slightly of centre  :o
Back over the pit, raised the front end and wiggled the front wheel...hmm, fair bit of play now and a clonking sound. Bottom ball joint given up.
New wishbone will be ordered tomorrow and I'll fit it either tomorrow  or friday evening.
Must have been the jacking up and swapping the wheels over that disturbed it enough to be able to trace it. No issue with the darned thing when I checked the front end last week in my search for the cause of the pull to the left.

I'd say max 10k since both changed. I would normally agree that both should be done but there is no movement at all on the other side and the front and rear bushes are fine all round.
I've had two Migs over the last 8 years and I've found the left hand side is always the one that goes way before the other and put it down to the wear and tear on the 18 roundabouts on my daily commute. They are on A roads with clear vision of anything that needs to be given way to, so the left side comes under a fair bit of stress as there is no need to slow down as much as normal...erm, except maybe to save my l/h wishbone.  ::)

Chrisgixxer will know what I mean by "two rears to every one front" when it comes to bike tyres. I've found the same with Mig wishbones. I've not had a bottom ball joint issue before. Must have been a friday afternoon wishbone  ;D

I've swapped the tyres front to back, but they're rotational, so I'd have to take them off the rims for a left to right swap.

would probably do the same tbh. 10k not too bad. You can always do the other side if you notice any differences.

What make are they by the way? Any warranty?

Hoo-flung-dung's I think  ;D
Not sure of the make, but they've rusted up a treat with very little black paint left, so they can't be that good a standard.
I'm quite fortunate as I have my own keys to my mates business, so I have full access to a pit, 4 point lifts and all the tools, so I can do the work whatever the weather.
