Major water leak - advice urgently required!
« on: 27 May 2009, 21:17:37 »

Hi, I recently got a 2.5TD and all was well until yesterday when it started making a noise from the front of the engine and then tonight started leaking water at an alarming rate.

I've removed covers etc. and found that I can wriggle the 'thing' that drives the radiator fan about 10mm side-to-side.  This appears to be the source of the leak.

I'm assuming that this is the famous Omega water pump and that either the shaft seal or the impeller have failed.

Please can one of you good folks confirm that it is indeed the water pump?

If so, how do I:

a. loosen off the long belt?
b. remove the fan?
c. remove the f$*£!&g pump?

My thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Cheers,

Dobbs.

Yup, water pump. Don't use.

remove the gay fan (left hand thread), pop belt off (easiest to remove the black plate attached to top of tensioner damper), then the 3 bolts that hold the pump in
