MOT Failure - Headlight Adjustment
« on: 06 July 2009, 16:04:32 »

Just failed the MOT on both headlight adjustments.

Too high and too far to the left.

MOT tester would have corrected for free but says adjusters are seezed. He has also said if I can get them unseezed he will readjust for nothing.

2 questions, where are the headlight adjusters and how is best to unseeze???!!!

The adjusters would appear to be on top of the headlight, they use Allen key screws to adjust.

This is based on the fact I watched my MOT tester today do just what yours couldn't. Sorry! It seemed simple enough tho, and I'd imagine some wd40 should do the trick to unseize yours! :y

I'm sure there's a pic somewhere on this forum.... :-/

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

They are Torx keys on the top of the headlights, if they are siezed then try some penetrating fluid on those shafts and work gently back and forth. They should free up. DO NOT try and force them as the internal adjuster are only plastic and WILL break if excessive force is used.

perhaps the MOT guy was trying to turn the plastic wheel at the back as mine did, mind you if they are that far out of adjustment you might find the inner adjuster block has busted up as its very common :(

Looked at it last night, adjusters are all working fine, phoned MOT garage this morning and spoke to tester. Yes, he confirmed he was trying to turn the plastic wheel not the allen keys (looks to be allen keys not torx, well allen keys moved mine) on front.

I 've taken headlinghs out and both adjusters are fine all working as they should. Ahh well back in tomorrow for free adjustment and new MOT certificate!  :D
