Willing to buy an Omega, need some help.
« on: 15 July 2009, 10:01:32 »

The car I'm going to buy (90%) is a nice, green, Opel Omega Saloon (i'll post some pictures Cheesy), 2.0 16v 136 BHP from 94-95, with 216k Km on the clock (137k miles, if i'm not mistaken). The price for this car is somewhere around 1200 Euro (yes, given the prices I've seen in England, I'm sure you'll say it's a lot, but we're not that lucky with car prices)

However, it seems that the car has some problems with the engine, with the lambda probe (I guess that's the one) to be more specific. So, I have a small question for you guys : I've also seen the terms "Lambda front/rear sensors". What's the difference? And btw, if somebody has a lambda probe, sensor or whatever for sale, for a '94-'95 2.0 16v, and is willing to ship to Romania, please let me know. I have Paypal, so there shouldn't be a problem with the payment (I've bought things from ebay.co.uk and there wasn't any problem).

Also, when I'll go and check the car out, what should I look after?

Hope you'll be able to help me!

Hmmm, the car is only a two litre, very low spec model, which in the UK would be worth very little. I have no idea of prices over there, but that car would not be very tempting for me. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you will find cars like that over here for Pennies.

Yeah, I know... tell me about it. I'm aware that you have great cars sold for 1-200 £, but you also have the wheel on the right side, which isn't very helpful... So I have to settle for what I can find in my own country. Just to make an impression of the prices in Romania, try looking a bit on www.autovit.ro , you'll see the prices on s/h cars there...

That is fairly high miles for a 2L.

They can have issues with head gaskets if the coolant hasn't been regularly replaced and bore wear on no.1 cylinder.  Might be worth removing spark plugs and inspecting?

Not sure about the lambda issue - that should certainly be a negotiating point here as likely to be an MOT fail on emissions.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid... Actually, not afraid, I'm certain that the car won't pass our ITP (Periodic Technical Inspection), but still, I'd like to know where I could find a lambda probe and if anybody on this forum has one for sale.
