When should A/C Fans Run.
« on: 26 August 2009, 02:42:56 »

When i started my car up today to check and top up the Autobox the left A/C fan as viewed from the front came on straight away(A/C set to Auto)and didn't go off even if A/C turned off or set to ECO mode :(.

After having the engine running for over half an hour the radiator fan didn't even come on so at least I've cured the overheating problem :), but the A/C fan wouldn't shut down until the ignition was switched off :(.

When should the A/C fan/s come on and go off :question.

Anyone got any idea as to what the problem is :question.

            Cheers,
                      Pete :).

PS.  I get the impression this car thinks that if i fix a problem i won't go out and play with it anymore so causes another problem to get my attention ;D.

Check this fuse, mine keeps blowing and when it does, only the left hand AC fan will work, not the smaller one on the right or the main cooling fan between rad and engine.

I'm currently working on a theory (suggested by Kevin Wood in another post ages ago) that the reason behind my fuse and high coolant temp problems (at the moment the car runs too hot with AC on even with the fuse intact but runs fine with ECO mode on) is down to a dodgy relay in the triangular box behind the battery. Can't remember which relay it is but I did move it around a bit a couple of months ago, which seemed to wake it up and temporarily cure the problem. There's diagrams somewhere on here showing the layout of the fuse boxes, that should help.

Thanks Alex I'll have a play with the relays and check the fuses :y.

Ps. When should the right hand fan come on then or are they both supposed to come on when the A/C is on Auto?

Thanks Al, I thought that maybe the second one came on if the outside temp. was very hot so at least now i know I've got a dodgy fan :y.

Not sure if you can, but have you tried swapping the connectors over on the 2 fans?
