yes it can, but what are your problems?
If you get the lamp on the maf with following low performance, cleaning wont do any good.
If you get the annoying loss of power at some revs/loads or the torque comes and goes when you floor it, you can try cleaning...
Clean it with a elecro cleaner, best way is to take the gauge out of the pipe that is fitted to your hose.
If you see at the bottom of it, there is a opening in the air flow direction. if you use a flashlight you will see that there is a metal plate inside...Do not put anything in there, its a sensitive metal that changes resistanse when air is flowing over it.
So you clean that metal and the rest of the part, and put it back.
If this dont do it you need to change it.

AND do not buy an aftermarket maf, only bosch will do this job good enough!!! trust me i have just tried a cheap aftermarket maf, and it nearly sent me to the nearest mental hospital  :D

If your going to use elecro cleaner or switch cleaner, check it on Plastic first, as some of these cleaners can burn / melt plastic.  :y
