doubt it will work as i suspect their is a feedback circuit (don't know for def on 2.2dti though).

Cleaning the valve is the usual fix for poorly serviced vauxhalls with dirty egrs

How many pins does the wiring connector have?

If just two you may be able to do it OK.

I measured the resistance of ours a few weeks ago.  Can't remember the number but it's on here somewhere.  I'll try to search it out.  If I'm correct in remembering it was around 30 Ohms [Edit; yes it was], then you'd want approx. 10W resistor.

Part number of EGR valve would help confirm whether it's the same.

That's a different part number from the X20XEV version, according to the Trade Club book, but I'd be tempted to take a punt on a:

10W W/W 33R H33R £0.46  In Stock

from Maplin.

Don't think there's any risk, but if there is I'm sure someone'll point it out soon.

Of course its different - diesels use a different egr.  Diesels also use massive amounts of egr for economy.

Certainly the 2.5td engine measures the amount of egr used indirectly by calculating fuel/air
