Blown fuse. Under bonet Whats it for?
« on: 26 August 2009, 15:54:31 »

I have just looked in the fuse box near the battery and noticed that the yellow fuse holder fuse is blown, Its next to the brown relay.
I replaced it and it blew straight away again.
Does anyone know what this fuse is for?
Its a 2.5 TD N reg.

Just had a look at mine, the only yellow fuse, is for the power steering if memory serves.  If that has blown you would have noticed it though.  ::)

Mine is a Facelift TD but if I remember correctly the pre-facelift was the same.

Hi
I'm not sure, does yours have a fan on the intercooler, if so it may have something to do with that. Thats what auto sparky told me.
Hope this helps

Hi All
I think this fuse is supplying power to the intercooler fan which is located forward of the RH front roadwheel. These fans tend to seize due to the fact that they are not in regular use. I stripped & cleaned mine & it now works as it should. I give it a spin now & again to make sure it stays free.

I Have now checked the fan and yes it is seized solid.
I am just wondering why they have a fan on the intercooler? Never come accross this before. Anyone know?
It just seems to restrict the air flow to me. Thinking about removing it totally so the air can get in easier.

Fan on intercooler is to to cool compressed air from the turbo. Cooled air is denser than hot air therefore increasing torque and power of the engine.

Yeah I know this but what good will a fan do when your going down the road and the air is forced through the intercooler anyway?
I have been a mechanic since leaving school and have never known a intercooler have a fan on it.
It just seems pointless.
