can anyone recommend a lpg converter in west sussex/hampshire area and what sort of mpg should i get

I had mine done by these guys ..

and I'm very, very pleased. Cost was £1850 + VAT 18 months ago.

MPG means little when you compare LPG to petrol .. as LPG weighs less than petrol you use slightly more. Best way IMHO is the "pence / mile" calculation.

Now the "sad git" bit .. I have kept a record of my mileage /costs  since I had the conversion done ... 

Estimated costs if I had run on petrol .. 22.74 pence /mile
Actual costs of running on LPG .. 14.22 pence /mile

This is over 16183 miles which includes some long distance towing (UK to South of France) which tends to use a lot of fuel regardless of type !!

So I'm saving on average 8.52 pence /mile or 37.45 %

At that conversion cost, it means you need to do 30k miles before it pays for itself:

22p per mile = £6,600 per 30,000 miles

14p per mile = £4,200 per 30,000 miles

Not to mention you loose the boot, which puts me off it all really.

Sorry it's a 2.0ltr and i do about 50,000 mile per year

Actually in my case it's 25,533 miles to the "break point" if you wish to look at it that way. I actually factored in the conversion cost at the time of purchase, and prefer to think of it as saving me just under £100 a month.

But thats just my point of view

Its something i may need consider soon, as i maybe doing 35k miles per year soon.

Its quite a large investment, its better if you go DIY and can switch it between cars i guess  :-/

I still do a lot of trips with my mates to Europe or around the UK, so i think i may have to go the diesel route when the 2.2 reaches its end.

If you went my route .. expensive @ 35K a year be paid for in 9 months (ish)

Go Kevins route .. about £800 I think .. be paid for in 3 months !!!

There are other advantages as well ... much cleaner engine, exhausts last longer, oil is as clean when it comes out as when it went in.... well worth considering if you fill either criteria ;

1 ... high mileage per annum

or

2 ... you plan to keep the car a long time

if you do both its almost mandatory !!!
