Air con is blowing a 30 amp fuse??????
« on: 10 September 2009, 22:47:59 »

Hi all as well as my headlight problems see Headlight adjustment. I have a new problem. My old compressor went kaput on the clutch mech and after it was disabled we found that if you accidently pressed the switch it blew the fuse for the air con and blowers? As part of this restoration work I have now replaced the compressor and clutch and had it all pressure checked and re-gassed but when you try to activate the air con the fuse still blows? We have checked all relays we can find but the book of lies and car manual does not give all locations or info come to that. can anyone advise further HELP I want to get back on the road :-[

I think I've got the gist of your post!
It's a fair current needed to pop a 30 amp fuse, perhaps remove some multiplugs from the compressor, then try, OK it won't work but if the fuse stays in you'll at least know if it's the coils on the clutch.  Failing that, it's going to be a case of disconnecting the air con controller too, that's the bit on the dash board.

Since when has this been happening?  i.e. have you trapped a wire on a loom when replacing something  :y

Think it's a "Retrace your steps" kinda thingy..

Davec you dont need to remove anything on the dash !
There is a relay in the engine bay relay 5try unpugging this .
I had this happening last week it was blowing the fuse when the air con was turned on I was also loosing the dash insturments when the fuse blew

Hi LFF64 & Dave C
I have not moved anything that I can recall that would trap a wire.
LFF 64 You mention you had a similar problem blowing a fuse? Did you find out what was causing it, and if so how was it resolved?
Dave this car has standard air con not climate control so there is only the wire that activates the clutch.
Thanks for your interest guys

Other than going around disconnecting the multi plugs, not really, maybe you could make it to one of the next meets, not sure when there is one, but, worth considering..  ;)
