A little help please

Hi folks, whilst waiting for the new exhaust manifold to arrive, thought I'd clean up some parts I've removed before fitting the new one. Do I take it the (non-return valve) is screwed up ? as I can blow down it both ways  :( not sure how these work, thanks.

I wouldn't buy a new one, considering it's only for supposedly saving the planet. If you do want to replace it, how about 2nd hand? There are plenty of cars being broken on the forum that I'm sure you'd get for preferential rates. Personally, I'd just pull the plug on the sencondary air pump in the nearside inner wing and leave it at that. We won't tell the tree huggers if you don't!!  ;)  ;D  ;D  ;D

Hi they do blow both ways its the valve connected to the secondrdary air intake that blows up into it to the exhaust. thats it realy, p.s the cat needs clean air on start up to keep it cooler for run up if blow not connected can cause the cat to get to hot and wear out. :y

 :-/  :-/  :-/  :-/ Cats need to get up to temp asap for them to work properly.

If your going to replace it then best get a good S/H one unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for a new one :o.

Second hand and they should only blow one way......you can un-screw just the valve assembly and they are the same as on the V6 to easy to find

I (foolishly) bought a new one when I first got my Omega and it was over £90 from Vauxhall! Get a second hand one! :y

In side  a cat is like a bee hive, it it get to hot to soon it can distroy the cells in side needs clean air on start up to clean the cat and blow air in to help cat work properly, I have made a cat my self years ago. you dont need a new 1 it fine, it needs to go both ways. :y

On pre-facelift Omega's the FAI pump blows air into the exhaust manifold at the same time as the engine is running rich during cold start up. The extra air allows the unburnt fuel to burn in the cats for a faster warm up.

Because the cats have started from cold there shouldn't be a risk of overheating them & because the FAI pump only runs for a minute or so the engine will probably not be running at anything more than a fast idle so there shouldn't be a big thermal shock for the cats.

The FAI pump was dropped for 2.6 & 3.2 engines which would indicate that the benefits didn't justify the extra complexity.

The pipework between the FAI pump and the stainless steel air injectors is only rubber and incapable of carrying hot exhaust gases. If you don't want an engine bay fire then you need either working non return valves or you need to plug the air injection ports.

Removed because small pre-cats were fitted which warm up MUCH faster........and cause grief with cat efficiency codes!  ;D ;D
