Hi

I am not getting any vacuum to the top of the hbv, irrespective of what i do with the heater controls (old style rotating knobs). I guess the supply of vacuum is switched somewhere, can sombody please advise where?

For info, I do have vacuum to the distribution knob and can direct air as desired even after the engine is switched off, so I believe the supply of vacuum into the cabin is ok, just not getting through to the hbv.

Take out the radio and remove the full frunt screws behind the nobs and back of the ash tray, then remove the white back panel, u will see all the pipes there, take it off, get some rubber glue put it on the plastic part that the pipes fit on then let it dry together, then try it with the engine running should work then

Out of interest, does one of those vac pipes lead direct to the hbv then, or does it feed through another solenoid or something on the way. I find the workings of this heating and cooling setup very complicated.

my car is a 2.5 diesel facelift and im sure the vacuum pipe goes besides the pollen filter underneath the scuttle trim. not sure if the same for a petrol

There is only the main air controls the vacuum, dose timing etc, but has it own lines, its not hard to do take about 10mi to get it all undun.

So I found my problem. Vacuum to the HBV is controlled by a solenoid valve mounted on the left hand end cover of the a/c evaporator, next to the solenoid valve for the air recirculation.

This solenoid is controlled by 2 microswitches that  are wired in series and triggered when the temp knob is turned fully anti clockwise.

The problem I have is that the valve is siezed and does not let the vacuum through. If the current regime of soaking with plus-gas, pressuring with a foot pump and regular beatings with a hammer does not free it, it will have to be replaced.

I wasn't sure if the non climates had the solenoid like the climate cars, cheers for info
