Power steering not working at idle
« on: 22 September 2009, 10:43:55 »

Hi all,

After a day giving the Omega some stick around the millbrook proving ground the power steering now does not work when the engine is warm on tick over. But as soon as you give it a few revs it works.

Any suggestions? Would it help changing the fluid?

Cheers,
Mark

Could be a loose belt or week tensioner.

Thanks for that, is a power steering pump change an easy job?

Is the haynes manual for these cars worth getting? or is there a better manual?

I would rate its as a medium job.

I acually took a failed one apart to see how the fail and could see no signs of damage or wear. The onlt thing that was visable was that some of the slidig vains were slightly stuck and hence how a fluid change can help (there used to be a power steering additive that you cna add but, I have not seen it for some time)

You could try using Forte Power Steering Treatment. Comes in a tube!
