Exhaust manifold
« on: 15 October 2009, 00:24:44 »

I think  I have an exhuast manifold gasket gone it is sounding really noisey when first started now but almost stops when warmed up .
Question is how much work is it to change the gasket

new gasket, ££
new skin few weeks
new studs and nuts washers £££
maybe allday as the studs will snap and have to drill a hole in them to get them out with stud exstactor,
oh and a tetness jab if you not up to date.

it could be a sticky EGR or the air cut off valve, mine some times sound like that and it was the valve, clean'd it out and it has not made that sound again, changed the filter next to the motor was cloged up with muck, and was throwing it into the air valve. :y

I've done quite a few now and not had one snap on a V6. If its the driverside it will take about 3/4 hours. I would get a genuine multi layered manifold gasket from your dealers, I will see if I can find the receipt/part Nos from the last one I did which was only about 3 weeks ago

Its back  :( Not that I am suprised
I have not had chance yet to look which side but I bet it will be the worst side to do which ever that is  :D
At least it is fairly clean under the bonnet and blood can easily be washed off  ::)

Passenger side is the hardest, you have to lift the engine off its mounts and move it over slightly to gain access to the manifold :(

It can be done without!

The key thing is to screw teh studs back into the head before re-fitting the manifold.

Ow yes, undo the B-Bolt to get some slop in the dipstick.
