« on: 19 October 2009, 08:09:53 »

just had service done well 4 week ago was checking on the secondary pump and started car from cold and when cold there is a rattle on right and side i thought cambelt first but i think its coming from steering pump area but it went when car got hot when  i have car serviced i tell man to put genuine parts on but he had changed auxillary belt said it was pattern but would be ok have any of you guys got any idea what the rattle could be before i go steaming in and tell him it might be non gen belt that caused it because he did say it was a pig to put on

can not see how it would be a pig to put on unless it is the wrong size and to small, belts just usually self tensioned by tensionor, just with spanner on tensionor and it pulls back on spring belt off,new one put round pulleys hold near tensionor and turn to releave tension on to tensionor and let go off tensionor belt on bobs your uncle :y :y

You can if you are careful, take the aux belt off and start the engine, make sure the belt is well out of the way.

If it's still rattling then it's the cambelt, if not then it's something on the aux belt.

My alternator bearings aren't their best and this causes a sound that is similar to lazy lifters. It is annoying, I will get around to replacing it one day, but I seem to have a rare alternator. Not sure how that is possible in the VX world, but I now 2 spare alternators that should have fitted!
