ive checked my atf this morn and it took half a litre,first thing in morn when cold i have reverse but no forward gears unlress i select winter mode,when its warm in d it sets off like its in winter mode but i can manually select 2nd gear to set off but i dont have 1st gear at all.when i manually select 1st you can feel the car trying to move,i know nowt bout auto boxes so if anyone could shed any light before i go to gearbox place and have a little knowledge so i dont get ripped off,also im from huddersfield does anyone know any good places in this area  cheers 2.2 2001 auto estate 133000 miles

ive been goin thro prev posts and have seen loads of autobox probs so does anyone have a rough idea of prices for reconditioning or average repair prices

if the gear selector lights correspond correctly with the gear lever position, i would say thats had it mate. Breakers on here usually have a spare auto box or 2 kicking about for very reasonable money.

Trouble is they are both awol at the moment it seems? Worth an ad in parts wanted section or test zone if you dont have enough posts, maybe Jimbob will move it for you. Hth

There were a couple of AR25's and 35's on eBay the other day  - around the £200 mark if that's any help :y

You're looking at £1000 fro a reconditioned auto box. Far better, as suggested, you get A N Other second hand box.  IMHO
