oil leak, sump area
« on: 04 November 2009, 19:08:08 »

found an oil leak, drivers side on top fo the sump, below alternator, cant see any oil above the lower altrenator brccket, so dont think its running down from above
this general area, as viewed from drivers side front wheel arch, sorry for camera shake, i was cold and bursting for a wee ;D

closer view showing a sensor, oil presure switch maybe?

or is it the oil level sensor? cans see oil dripping off the bottom of it here top right bottom of nut

top pic also just shows a sensor pointing vbertically down into the sump, guess thats the oil level switch but not certaim which is which?

Any thoughts on where its coming from exactly? Is it worth nipping up the boss they screw into? If thats how it works? :-/

Cheers

Chris  :)

Not convinced on the crank seal, that would result in a lot of wet around the oil pump area.

The marking around the alternator lower mount sudgests its coming from higher up possibly around the front corner of the cam cover (any sign of oil if you shine a torch around that area?)

its totally dry under the crank pulley.

but feel round the back of the cam belt back cover, between alternator and aux tensioner, and its wet with oil. Signs of oil in the corners of the front of cam cover. Its running down. Arse!

when i got the car, the torx nut shown by no1 pot, was loose. Undid it with my fingers.
Had hoped the slight residue was left over from that. Seems not. :-(
