Ashtray spring?
« on: 05 December 2009, 16:08:52 »

My facelift ashtray won't stay in and it would appear the little spring has come loose from a piece of plastic.
Does anyone know how to re attach it?

There should be a spring with the coil part in the centre and then the two long ends come off it from opposite ends.
This spring goes on the the small plastic column at the back of the ashtray, you then put the plastic finger which has grooves in it on from a right angle position then flick one end of the springs long ends under its lip.
I have done this myself within the last day or two ::)

Hope that makes sense.

Suppose I could take a picture :y

The spring is on the plastic finger and the ashtray comes out ok but does not stay in.
In my photo there is a bit of plastic with a 2 on it but I can't see where the spring fits to it or where it goes.
Presumably this is the mechanism that lets the ashtray out when you push it in a bit.

Could someone post a photo of the back of the ashtray showing where the "L" shaped end of the spring fits and where the bit of plastic fits.
Thanks

A picture would assist a lot!!
I have spent quite some time trying to do this and failed miserably.
Got the "flicking the spring" over, but where does the plastic finger fit
If you do have time a photo would be brill.
Thanks

Yeah that's what I was working from, got the spring to finger bit but where does the little bit of plastic go once you have connected the spring.

Ok I've been to a scrappy and had a look, I was missing a small spring so we were talking about different springs, no wonder it wouldn't work.
There are 2 springs, one that I took the photo of that just pushes the ashtray out, then a small one that holds the plastic piece and turns it to hold the ashtray in until you push it and it releases.
All back and working.
Thanks for your help.
