Looks like the thermostat needs changing, it seems stays opened all the time.
Was looking at this item on ebay

So anybody knows is this any good?
I presume you get every part necessary to change it?
From what I've seen I need to remove the two hoses and the thermostat with housing (please someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Aslo does anyone knows what size torx do I need and how much cooling liquid?

No experiance of that supplier, sorry.

Does not mention replacement bolts, but you can re-use the old ones anyway. Think its E12/E14 socket size.

Drop the coolant, you will need about 6-7L. I get 1x 5L pure bottle of antifreeze, and take off 2.5L mix with water in another container.

Ok coolant will leak but wont loose so much.

your going to loose a fair bit of coolant, your best off fully draining and re-filling for the minimal cost. Biggest cause of HG failure on 2.2 is old coolant

I would siphon out the contents of the expansion tank, into an empty 2L plastic bottle.  Use something like this to suck it out:


Should reduce the 'head' of coolant enough to lose next-to-none when you take the hoses off the thermostat housing.

When you're done, pour it back into the expansion tank.  Less chance of acquiring an airlock than if you drain completely, and less mess than if you don't drain anything.

I really would not advise doing that, why bother!? It costs £15 for 5L anti-freeze.

That kind of penny pinching, IMO, is false economy, and i would put money on the HG going early.

Neither penny-pinching nor false economy if the coolant is known to be fresh.

If you are going to all the fuss and bother of changing the thermostat, (and therefore losing coolant) you might as well do the job once, and do it properly. Drain down to change the 'stat, and refill with fresh, as Tunnie says.
For £15 extra, while your under the car, do both now, save problems later.
BTW, my garage recommends a complete change of coolant every 2 years anyway.

Vx red is 5 years on paper, but for the cost, mine gets changed yearly

Yea but coolant in mine is 3 months old so no point in changing it. I will just top it up.
But I will have to bux the torx first
