ABS ECU replaced now car not starting
« on: 03 December 2009, 16:43:24 »

Hi,

I've just had my abs ecu refurbed, put it back on the car, put it all together and now it won't start :-( specifically the engine spins but does not fire and the eml light is flashing.

Fault codes showing are 135, 144 and 31.

I'm totally baffled with this as I'm certain I've put all the wiring back together.

Any thoughts on this much appreciated.

I noticed that there is a purple multiplug in the relay box that isn't connected.  Has wires going to it but no plug in th top of it. Can't remember now if it had a plug in it. If anyone could double check their relay box that would be great.

PS It's a 2.5 petrol auto should that make any difference

Hmm. Immobiliser no signal and telltale voltage low.

Did you remove any of the large round connectors behind the battery? Might be worth checking they are firmly seated still.

Looks like the main problem is that the ECU can't see a signal from the immobiliser. Worth checking the transponder chip is still in the key.  :-/

Also make sure all fuses are intact.

Yes removed all 3 large round connectors but they seem ok. I'll try those again though - could these be the problem? The white one on the right was a pain though.

RE the key - tried with both keys

Just thinking the connection to the immobiliser probably goes through one of them, as does the telltale signal to the dash, and they're the only things likely to have been disturbed. I assume you left the engine ECU and relay box in-situ?

No, I removed the ecu and relay box to give me a bit of space.

Just thought I'd let everyone know who replied I got it sorted yesterday.

After 2 unsuccessful visits from a mobile guy with a tech2 variant to reprogram keys and ecu I hit the Haynes manual wiring section....

To cut a long story short, in the process of replacing the abs ecu I must have damaged the wire that feeds data from the immobiliser to the ecu because when I ran a wire between the two, my little darling purred back into life!
Just in time to leave it stranded on the drive because of the snow lol
