Effects of coolant loss
« on: 11 January 2010, 08:53:22 »

Over the last 6ish weeks I have noticed a slight coolant loss...sometimes it is only about a eggcup to bring upto level, sometimes it is slightly more.HBV was replaced in summer, since then I have replaced the dispack which I found easier with HBV out of the way so it has been disturbed from its original fit.
Yesterday after doing a very short run coolant "warning"apperared so when I got home again topped it up with 50/50 mix.
Due to subzero temperature and no real desire to do any mechanical work, will I cause any issues with just continually topping it up ,until I can really get to root of problem ??
Have noticed evidence of water ?directly below the bottom heater matrix pipe from engine bay to cabin, and think this may require attention  but not until warmer and less snow.

would think it would beok for a few days but it will get worse, and will find that you use more fuel.etc

water pressure, not get to heat the fuel.

The system will still pressure fine. Risk is overpressurising.

Only place that coolant goes anywhere near the inlet is the throttle bodies, and that is to prevent icing?

Loss of coolant seems to be more noticeable over last week as due to weather have only been doing very short runs(wife/daughter to work !!!) I normally drive 100+ a day and then am only adding very small amounts so unsure if that is related...on the subject of fuel,Omega v6 is not the most fuel efficient  car on the planet and I am able to offset all of mine to tax .
