Replaced glow plugs now have problems plz help
« on: 12 January 2010, 10:23:35 »

hi all,

ok replaced glow plugs at the weekend, and now car is not pulling right,
i have a feeling it is connected to the vac pipes on intake manifold and egr being put back wrong as i accidently pulled them off taking manifold off,

can anyone tell me where the go for deff please,
previous ower had similar issue and sorted it but forgot where they go now,

one comes from the battery area black with blue stripe and goes to egr if i'm right,

he said another just hangs down to take away any oil from egr like a drain?

another comes from under the intake manifold but have run this back to egr valve,

anyone can help please poss with a diagram from a manual or similar thanks

many thanks

rob

Should have 1 pipe coming from the bottom of the manifold, which goes to the pressure sensor by the relay box(right of box if stood at side of car).
The other pipe goes from the egr valve to the electric vacuum solinoid on the wing. Hope that helps, only one pipe on my egr,no drain pipe.

thanks mate, i have the manifold running back to egr valve, do you have the blue stripe on black pipe on yours? does this go to the main egr spigot?

really cold do with a diagram as i must have pulled the end off sensor then for it to be dangling from egr or manifold,

thanks rob

Sounds like the boost sensor pipe isn't connected properly to me.

The vacuum pipe from the bottom of the manifold goes to the pressure sensor.

The EGR solinoid has 2 connections, the one nearest the end goes to the EGR valve(black/blue pipe),the other goes to the main large vacuum feed which runs between the vacuum pump and the brake servo.

Hope that helps

You shoudn't need a drain pipe. Most egr valves have a seal between the main body and the vacuum diaphragm part which sould keep the oil mist in the main part of the egr valve, where it gets sucked into the engine and burnt. Over time the seal starts to fail/go hard and oil starts to find its way into the vacuum diaphragm and then out through the breather hole which is normaly at the bottom. The valve can still work even with the leaking seal.just makes a mess of your engine bay over time.

ok thanks, previous owner put a brand new egr valve on just before i brought it, so just wanted to make sure it was a drain that he was telling me and not missing another vac pipe or something.

thanks rob

Some EGR valves have two pipe connectors, some have one connector plus a drain hole.

The drain hole (or inner pipe connection) is actually an atmospheric vent - the valve won't operate without venting!
Due to the 'oily' nature of these engines, some owners (including moi), have connected a small bore hose to allow any excess oil to drain away from the engine bay.

Works a treat, and keeps things clean under the bonnet!
