boot locked

it seems no amount of wd40 will free my boot lock - its a climb into the boot from the rear i thnk . What do i do once in there to gain access to the mechanism? ( i can hear the solonoid working) :-/ :y

The metal rod from the solonoid has either come off or snapped the loop. Fairley easy to open from inside once you have the tailgate carpet off :y

cheers lee, by tailgate carpet i presume you mean the black cover running from both b/light clusters & not the boot lid  :y

I meant the one on the lid itself. Pop the dozen(ish) clips off the vertical side and it folds up to reveal the lock, button back and mechanism :y

  i,m in york - i,ve already popped a few of those so,s i could put wd behind it (working blind & at16st + not easy) but i,m sure now i know, it will be self evident in what i have to do , cheers lee  :y :y

How did you get on ray? If your still struggling, give me a shout and I will nip round! :)

Got to fix my own Mig now though too... Keeps cutting out - refused to start too 1/2 way to work this morning (fired up eventually!) >:( >:( >:(

I had same problem in reverse - it would not lock. I found that the only way was to take off the boot lid liner and it turned out to be that the link rod had come off the lock. I took the whole lot out and lubricated it all, replaced it and put the solenoid connecting rod back on securely.
Job done, easy peasy. 20 minutes was all it took.
The rod that connects the lock is a right angle at one end, secured by a plastic clip but the solenoid end is just bent in a 'U' with nothing to retain it. Considering it is a 'push/pull' action it is a poor design. I resolved this by using a small tiewrap to put around the U after I had hooked it back into the solenoid to prevent it popping out again. It works fine.
Worst part of the job was getting all those panel trim clips out without damage.
