180bhp td?
« on: 19 December 2007, 20:23:36 »

just browsing through piston heads and came across this...
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/312305.htm

is it really possible to get that much bhp out of a td? it's not exactly low mileage either.

i do think it looks nice though 8-)

that was up for sale on flea bay not so long ago........

someone has stuffed it in the meantime......

a lot of money for a high miler, i know it has all the nice parts on it, especially the wheels, but still it's a 200,000 mile tractor that has most likely had its nuts wrung out of it

Vauxhall decided to lower the state of tune and so by changing the ECU setting had the engine producing lower BHP than it was really capable of

oh right, why would they do that? surely you need all the power you can get with a big car like the omega.

potentially reliability, plus the TD would have been on a par with the 2.5V6, and i believe the gearbox struggles to handle the power it has today let alone even more

Its the same with the Rover 75, it has the same diesel engine as the BMW 320d but has about 30 odd BHP less. I think its down to BMW not wanting a competitors car being as quick.

detuned to 250Nm to make the AR25 gearbox last more than a week.  Manuals detuned to keep engines the same.  The detuning affects mpg as well, so worth chipping back to bmw spec if you haven't got ar25
